Subtitle: BRAZILIAN LEFT RESISTING FASCISM WITH RESILIENCE AND CREATIVITY: CREATING NETWORKS, ARTIVISM & INDEPENDENT MEDIA STRATEGIES

In this panel we will bring to the Left Forum many ways in which Brazilians are resisting with resilience, hard political work, art and creativity to stand up against oppression.

The left in Brazil faces an unparalleled challenge to rethink its strategies after having the elected president, Dilma Rousseff, ousted in 2016 in a coup d’etat, huge campaigns on social and mainstream media against the Workers Party, the PT and other leftists parties.

After building a socialist democratic party and winning many elections from local and regional governments to the Presidency of the country in 4 consecutive elections, the PT (Workers' Party), born of the struggles of union’s movement at the end of the military regime in the early 1980s, it saw its power destroyed, its leaders prosecuted and imprisoned leaving its activists in a daily challenge to resist and build solidarity.

The Brazilian society is on a crossroads as an extreme right government with fascist tendencies was elected, with Bolsonaro as president in 2018. Elections were marked by frauds, now known methods of manipulating fake news, the imprisonment of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the front runner in the polls, and the denial of his right to be a candidate.
