What does Marxв??s critique of capital mean to a new generation of activists and thinkers who came to political consciousness during and immediately after the Occupy Movement, the April Spring, and the protests in Gezi Park? This panel will explore these questions by presenting papers by students who are engaged in a study of Marxв??s work, especially in light of how it speaks to capitalismв??s proclivity to generate economic crises, social inequality, alienation, and environmental destruction. The panel will also focus on whether Marxв??s work offers a coherent conception of an alternative to capitalism in light of the questions and ideas being posed by the contemporary feminist, global justice, and environmental movements.
